Writer's block. Ugh. I wish that there was a better explanation for my nine month blog hiatus but there really isn't. To my readers who have found comfort and happiness in reading my posts, I am truly sorry for taking so long.
I love to write and share my experiences with you. It has always been one of my greatest joys to put my thoughts down in writing; however jumbled and crazy those thoughts might be. When I started The Diary of a Traveling Welder's Wife, I really just needed a way to keep myself busy and entertained while on my first trip away from home with my husband and then 18 month old daughter. I never really expected that anyone else other than close friends and family would ever take any interest in it.
I'm glad to say I was wrong! After we got back from New Mexico, my very first trip as a traveling welder's wife, life got crazy and I didn't make time for my diary like I had before. Days turned into weeks and still I just had no desire to write. Then a month or so went by and I figured the world was better off without my humble little piece of cyberspace.
But then every so often, I would check up on my blog and see that someone had reached out to me, usually young welder's wives like myself that were happy to have a place to go that made them feel less alone on their adventures. It took me nine long months to realize that there might be some use for my crazy stories and lessons after all. So I'm going to take another shot at this diary and I pray I can bring some more joy and smiles to you. I know now, even if it's only one life I touch, it's more than I could ever ask for.
So to give you all a quick update, here I am, nine months later...almost 8 months pregnant with our second baby girl and finally at home in SC with my husband Blake and now two and a half year old daughter Campbell while we await the arrival of our newest little pride and joy, Allie Rose.
I'm not so much a traveling welder's wife at this point, since my husband has taken a job close to home for now...but we have had many more traveling adventures in the last year and I know we will have many more to come.
Our last four months (months 3-7 of my pregnancy) were spent flying back and forth with Campbell to Texas every other month to see Blake in between doctor's appointments. Note to all: this mama don't like to fly. Not one bit. It makes me incredibly uneasy to know there is only a man made piece of machinery I know nothing about between me and plunging 30,000 ft. to certain death. There are not many people on this planet I would willingly jump on a plane for with a toddler but that's all part of a day's work when your husband travels for a living.
I have lots of good stories for you guys; I can't wait to get writing and to hear from you all! So, I write this entry to you, my loyal reader, as an update...but also as a very sincere apology for the time I spent away.
And if you're traveling with your husband or wife in any trade or job and you find yourself wondering if it's all worth it, I can tell you this...if there is one thing I've learned in the last year as a TWW (Traveling Welder's Wife..for future reference) it's that the jobs and places will come and go, but the memories will last a lifetime. Be thankful every day for this not-so-normal way of life and all the struggles that have come along with it...because like I've quoted before, traveling is the one thing in life you can buy that will always make you richer.
As always...here's to God, love, & some more miles on the truck:)
